Our 3 week China tour – Nanjing Edition

We left the cool temperatures of Beijing for the warmer climate of Nanjing. Nanjing is a city steeped in history as it served as the capital for six dynasties, the 19th century Taping Heavenly Kingdom as well as the first Chinese Republic under Dr. Sun Yat-sen. Nanjing is also a fast developing city, which gives it an interesting mix of ancient and modern.

All the bricks used in the wall were inscribed with the names of the officials responsible for them and sometimes with the names of the brick maker. Over 600 years and their mark still remains on many of the bricks.
